“Yielding to the Father: How Moms Can Lead with Faith and Wisdom”
Have you ever felt like you need to have all the answers—at work, at home, and everywhere in between? For many of us, especially moms navigating leadership roles in our careers and at home, the pressure to “figure it all out” can be overwhelming. I’ve been there. But what I’ve discovered is a truth that has changed everything: we don’t have to carry that burden alone. The Lord is our ultimate guide, and He has the answers we seek.
Whether in the boardroom, at the dinner table, or during the quiet moments of reflection, God’s wisdom has transformed how I lead, how I parent, and how I live.
Trusting God’s Guidance in Leadership
As District Director and Program Quality Director for District 14 in Toastmasters, I faced challenges that stretched me as a leader. The responsibility of setting a vision and guiding a team of leaders required more than just skills—it required wisdom and humility. And I quickly realized that I couldn’t do it all on my own.
James 1:5 became my anchor during those moments: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
I prayed for clarity, direction, and strength. As I sought God’s guidance, I found myself empowered to set clear expectations for my team while giving them the freedom to lead in their own unique ways. By trusting their gifts and talents—and God’s plan for the outcomes—we exceeded our goals and grew as a collective.
This experience taught me that leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about yielding to God’s wisdom and empowering others to step into their calling.
Motherhood: A Different Kind of Leadership
Leadership isn’t confined to titles or organizations—it extends to the sacred role of motherhood. As a single mom, I’ve faced moments when I didn’t have the answers my son needed. Whether it was navigating tough conversations, financial challenges, or emotional support, I often felt stretched beyond my capacity.
But here’s the truth that brought me peace: God helped me raise my son.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Time and time again, I saw God provide the wisdom, resources, and strength I needed. From small, everyday decisions to major life transitions, He was faithful. My son’s journey is a testimony of God’s grace and provision.
When God Speaks, Listen
In 2008, I experienced one of the clearest moments of God’s direction in my life. I wasn’t looking for change or thinking about furthering my education. But as I stood in my bathroom one morning, I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Go back to school.” It was unexpected, yet undeniable.
Isaiah 30:21 captures this beautifully: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.”
Despite my doubts, I obeyed. Pursuing my master’s degree wasn’t easy, but it became a turning point in my life. God equipped me with tools, opened doors I hadn’t imagined, and deepened my faith. Sometimes, we don’t know what lies ahead, but God does. And when we trust Him, He leads us into His perfect plan.
For Moms Balancing It All
Balancing professional demands with motherhood is no small feat. The pressure to excel at work, create a nurturing home, and maintain personal growth can feel overwhelming. But here’s what I’ve learned: You don’t have to navigate this journey alone.
Philippians 4:6-7 offers this promise: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
God meets us in the chaos of our schedules, the weight of our decisions, and the quiet cries of our hearts. When we surrender the need to have all the answers and instead trust Him, He provides clarity and peace.
Practical Steps for Yielding to God
If you’re navigating leadership, motherhood, or both, here are some steps to start yielding to the Father:
- Start Your Day with Prayer: Dedicate the first moments of your day to seeking God’s wisdom. A simple prayer like, “Lord, guide my decisions today and help me reflect Your love,” can set the tone for your day.
- Let Others Lead: Whether it’s at work or at home, empower others to step into their roles. Trusting your team or your children with responsibilities fosters growth and builds confidence.
- Reflect on God’s Faithfulness: Keep a journal of moments when you’ve seen God show up in your life. Reflecting on these instances will strengthen your trust in Him.

Walking Forward in Faith
Whether you’re leading in your career, your home, or both, remember this: You don’t have to have all the answers—because God does. Trust Him to guide you, empower you, and strengthen you.
Take a moment today to ask yourself: Where am I trying to figure it all out on my own? Bring that to the Lord in prayer, and let Him lead you.
